Matt Reeves’ forthcoming World War II movie has received some new details.

Reeves is best known for directing Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Batman, which was released in 2022. He’s currently working on a sequel, The Batman Part II, that is expected to arrive next year, while his filmography further includes 1996’s The Pallbearer, 2008’s Cloverfield, 2010’s Let Me In, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.

What do we know about Matt Reeves’ World War II movie?

Per Deadline, Reeves’ production company, 6th & Idaho, is now working on a movie about the 1942 summit between Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin.

“The movie about the Moscow meeting — a pivotal moment that led to the Allied victory three years later — is based on a script by Simon Sebag Montefiore, the historian and screenwriter,” the article states. “Montefiore, who also wrote the upcoming Young Stalin biopic starring Cosmo Jarvis, has penned two books about Stalin, a book on the Romanov dynasty, as well as three novels spanning 20th-century Russia.”

Montefiore said in a statement, “This movie is the culmination of a lifelong interest in Stalin and the script tells the inside story of his encounter with Churchill over just a few days, during which time the fate of the entire world hangs by a thread. We talk today about strong leaders, who have complete command. In Stalin and Churchill you have two of the very strongest leaders in history, who come together as the world is being torn apart. It is a portrait of two men and a portrait of power.””

6th & Idaho’s Lynn Harris added, “This is a wonderful story and a wonderful script.”

Whether or not Reeves directs the movie remains to be seen, as no other details about the project are currently available. A release date has not yet been set.
