Markets ended on negative note

Indian equity markets ended Wednesday’s session on a weak note after failing to hold gains at higher levels. Selling pressure increased during the second half of the trading session, dragging the benchmark indices lower by the close. The Sensex fell 141.90 points, or 0.19%, to settle at 75,867.80, while the Nifty slipped 6.55 points, or 0.03%, to close at 23,907.15.

Despite the overall weakness, several sectors saw strong buying interest during the session. Power, Capital Goods, Utilities, Metal, Industrials, Auto, Consumer Discretionary, Telecommunication, and Consumer Durables stocks outperformed the broader market. Meanwhile, sectors such as Banking, Financial Services, Information Technology, Oil & Gas, FMCG, and Energy witnessed mild profit booking. Banking and IT indices remained under pressure throughout the session, while participation in the broader market stayed selective.
