Lionsgate and Atomic Monster have revealed the premiere date for the next generation of doomed forest explorers, and other details about the pic are starting to come through as well. Here’s everything we know about the new Blair Witch Project movie so far.
When will the new Blair Witch Project movie hit theaters?
Lionstgate shared in a social media post that the premiere date for the flick will be September 24, 2027.
What will the new Blair Witch Project movie be about?
The project has been in the works with Lionsgate since 2022 and is expected to be a reboot of the found footage horror film that dominated the box office and introduced a new wave of followers (and two sequels, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 and Blair Witch) in 1999.
Who will star in the new Blair Witch Project movie?
A cast for the film has not yet been revealed, but we do know some of the creatives behind the project. Directing the film is Dylan Clark, from a script he is rewriting by Chris Devlin.
Producing is James Wan with Atomic Monster (with Michael Clear and Judson Scott from the company) alongside Jason Blum and Roy Lee of Blumhouse. Also producing are Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath, and executive producing is Steven Schneider. Production is also being overseen by Alayna Glasthal of Atomic Monster and Lionsgate’s Scott O’Brien and Pavan Kalidindi. The film was originally supposed to be directed by Eduardo Sanchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale, but they will instead executive produce.
Perhaps most interestingly, original movie stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams will also executive produce. The original movie’s lead, Rei Hance (formerly named Heather Donahue), wrote on Facebook that she declined to be part of the project out of concerns “about rights, future technological use of identity and voice, the ability to speak freely, and compensation.”
