Veteran actor Simran, a titan of Tamil cinema, in an interview spoke out about the systemic lack of regard South Indian stars often face in Bollywood. Despite her legendary status, she revealed that the Hindi film industry often overlooks the legacy and decades of hard work established by actors in the South.

Reflecting on certain experiences in Bollywood, the actor said “I have given more than half of my life to cinema, and despite that, if I lack respect, then it hurts. It makes no sense.”

Talking to Filmfare, she highlighted how this disrespect manifests in several different ways, noting that some production houses attempt to bargain over basic logistics like hotel stays, ticket costs, and the size of her support staff. This hierarchy and constant negotiation over essentials have, the actor revealed, led her to turn down a Hindi project in the past.

However, it hasn’t all been negative. Simran noted that her recent experiences on the sets of Gulmohar and the Sunny Deol-starrer Gabru were refreshing exceptions. She praised producer Om Chhangani and Sunny Deol for their humility and warmth, proving that professional respect does still exist in the industry.

Having debuted in 1995 and built an illustrious career across Tamil and Malayalam cinema, Simran shed light on actors’ experiences through her candid remarks.
